First we learn to crawl, then walk, then run. And so we begin. This blog will give me a place to record my thoughts about the happenings in my life, and will evolve as my own activities and goals evolve. At this stage, I intend to focus the blog on my ideas around developing the all-around fit person: strong in mind, body and spirit.
This triad is the cornerstone to success in all areas of life. They are interlinked and a weakness in one of the three inevitably leads to weakening in the others. A great thinker cannot work properly if plagued by such problems as back pain or heart disease, that easily arise if the body is ignored or misused. Likewise, building prowess in any of these areas can effect positive changes in the others provided that the person does not overextend and become one-dimensional. The emotional control of the spiritual person can lead to the exquisite focus required for peak athletic performance, for example.
In discussing this triad, I define the "spiritual" quality of a person as their holistic emotional makeup, not a metaphysical entity. The transient feelings are only the superficial element of the spiritual. The spirit of a person is rooted in their motivations and the character they exhibit in pursuing their goals. The attitude and perceptions are the metaphorical vessel that the individual steers through the waves and storms of life's difficulties.
Elevating the self by honing and strengthening the triad is the foundation for other activities, such as creative expression, compassionate action, and thoughtful problem-solving.
